BHUBANESWAR:The All India Democratic Students Organization (AIDSO) Odisha State Council will hold a massive state-wide student protest in front of the Legislative Assembly on September 28 to demand a solution to the extremely disastrous education system of the country and the state. This was announced at a press conference organized at the local Godavarish Sahitya Sansad by the organization’s state president Somnath Behera, editor Siddhartha Rath, vice-president Bhagyagirabhi Das, office editor Nasim Sarkar, treasurer Saptarshini Raul and editor-in-chief Vinod Sethi. Stating that “demands cannot be achieved without protest”, the leaders called for a state-wide movement against the ongoing government negligence in the education sector.
In a press conference, the leaders expressed their anger and said that the BJP government at the Center is conspiring to destroy the foundation of education by filling the curriculum from class 1 to 8 with illogical, unscientific, fabricated and ill-conceived content based on the National Education Policy-2020. There are countless errors in the books and important basic subjects have been omitted. Despite the strong demand to provide error-free textbooks across the state, the government is still silent.
The government is also undermining the importance of mother tongue and English education by implementing a flawed language policy. On the other hand, thousands of teacher-professor and education staff posts are lying vacant in the state, there is a severe lack of infrastructure, the process of closing schools has not been resumed in the past few days and a conspiracy has been made to destroy many educational institutions in the state under the guise of tempting slogans like ‘KG to PG free education’. Along with this, the future of students is being played with by not abolishing corrupt institutions like NTA which leaks question papers. To suppress the student movement, student council elections are being postponed in colleges and universities and an undemocratic ‘model code of conduct’ is being issued. On the other hand, due to the spread of drugs and bad culture in the society, atrocities on students and women are increasing.
