BHUBANESWAR: Forner Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday said that for the sake of Odisha, for the rights of four and a half crore Odias, for the future of our GenZ, he joined the BJD’s massive MMDR protest.
The amended MMDR Act has taken away the rights of Odias. This is not an ordinary law. This law is related to the rights of the state. Odisha’s mines, Odisha’s land are the owners of Odisha.
Sadly, such an important bill was passed in Parliament without any discussion. And our twenty BJP MPs sat silent, in whose interest? The Odisha government also remained silent, in whose fear?
‘I wrote a letter to the Chief Minister for a special session of the Legislative Assembly. No reply. I wrote a letter to the Chief Minister again to bring a proposal opposing the MMDR Amendment Act. But no reply. No, no, this government. Only a talker,he said.
Odisha will suffer losses of thousands of crores of rupees every year due to this law. Why is the government silent for the interests of Odisha? No party can ever be bigger than this land.
‘The checkpoint is here today, it will not be there tomorrow. But if you cheat this land, you will be condemned forever. GenZ will not forgive you. The people of Odisha will not forgive you,’ he added.
‘This loss was in thousands of crores of Rupees. It is a matter of great shame and very unfortunate that the BJP leaders who had been elected by the people of Odisha, went to Parliament and supported this law. They supported the stripping away of our Constitutional rights. It is very unfortunate because in 2024 elections, they took people’s vote in the name of Odia pride. So, the BJD will continue its fight. The lies of the BJP have been exposed. We shall continue this fight under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik till this MMDR Act is repealed, ‘ BJD MP Manas Mangaraj said.
