FCI’s decision to purchase 5.8 million metric tonnes of paddy (rice) from Odisha will strengthen the financial condition of farmers – Dharmendra Pradhan

BHUBANESWAR:Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri Pralhad Joshi has informed that on the request of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will procure an additional 8 lakh metric tonnes, totaling 58 lakh tonnes, of rice from Odisha.

Replying to the letter of Union Minister Shri Pradhan, Shri Joshi said that to protect the interests of the farmer brothers and sisters of Odisha, the target of purchasing paddy for the Kharif crop has been increased from 40 lakh metric tonnes to 47 lakh metric tonnes. Similarly, for the Rabi crop, the target has been increased from 10 lakh metric tonnes to 11 lakh metric tonnes.

He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi for this. He said, the double engine government has always given priority to the welfare of the ‘food givers’. The decision to increase the purchase target by 8 lakh metric tons and purchase a total of 58 lakh metric tons of paddy will strengthen the financial condition of the farmers of Odisha. This timely decision of the Modi government will strengthen the economy of the state and the hands of our farmer brothers and sisters.

It is reported that Union Minister Shri Pradhan met Union Minister Shri Joshi on August 4th and discussed this matter. He discussed and wrote a letter to Odisha to collect more paddy than the target for the Kharif and Rabi seasons, especially the Ushuna rice harvest.
