BHUBANESWAR:The state government has issued a draft notification regarding reservation for the posts of Municipal Commissioners of 35 Municipal Corporations and NACs in the state. The draft has been prepared in accordance with the Odisha Municipal Act, 1950 and the Odisha Municipal (Determination of Ward Boundaries, Reservation of Seats and Conduct of Elections) Rules, 1994.
The public may submit their objections or suggestions within 15 days of the publication of this draft notification in the Odisha Gazette. These objections and suggestions can be submitted to the office of the Director, Municipal Administration. All the suggestions received within the stipulated time will be considered by the State Government.
As per the draft list, 11 posts of Municipal Commissioners and NACs are reserved for Scheduled Castes (women). Similarly, 7 posts are proposed for Scheduled Castes, 7 posts for Scheduled Tribes (women), 4 posts for Scheduled Tribes, 4 posts for women and 2 posts for Unsheltered Categories.
The draft notification has reserved the posts of Municipal Commissioner of Asika, Bhanjanagar, Kavisuryanagar and Boudhgarh Municipal Councils for women. Similarly, it is proposed to keep the posts of Municipal Commissioner of Polsara Municipal Council and Odgaon NAC unreserved. On the other hand, it is proposed to reserve the posts of Scheduled Castes in Chhatrapur Municipal Council, Chittarada, Bangiriposhi, Kaptipada, Betnati, Bamra, Rengali and Borigumma in the Scheduled Tribe (Women) category.
The state government has clarified that the final notification will be issued after considering the objections and suggestions. Till then, the list will be treated as draft.
