Dr Krishan Kumar’s Field Visit Fetches Dividends: Longest Bridge over Mahanadi Connecting Gopinathpur-Baideshwar to Open for Traffic by December

    BHUBANESWAR/CUTTACK: With Works Department Secretary Dr Krishan Kumar making frequent field visits, officials and engineers engaged in bridge and road constructions in Odisha, now seems in action mode. With Dr Kumar, personally supervising various projects, those are under close watch of Chief Minister’s Office, field works have been going on very smoothly, sources said.

    One such is the longest bridge in Odisha over river Mahanadi connecting Gopinathpur-Baideshwar in Cuttack District , which is getting ready. Works Secretary Dr Kumar along with senior officers visited the site and reviewed its progress. The length of the bridge is over 3 Km.

    This bridge will also connect ancient Singhanath Peetha through a ramp bridge. The amenities complex on either side with facilities for parking of vehicles, toilets, etc, will be developed as part of integrated development. The bridge is likely to be opened to traffic by December

    It may be noted here that in September, 2018 Foundation-stone of Gopinathpur-Baideswar bridge via the Singhanath shrine over the Mahanadi was laid. The Rs 131-crore project, assisted by the NABARD, when completed, would be the State’s longest bridge. Its length would be of 3,139 meter and overall width of main bridge including footpath and crash barrier would be 11.50 meter. Carriage way of bridge connecting the Singhanath Pitha would be four meter.

    The bridge work had been handed over to the SP Singla Constructions Private limited to complete it by July 26, 2021 but it is now expected to open by December this year.
