Congress Sponsored Bandh hit Railways Services in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Congress workers in Bhubaneswar led by MLA Suresh Kumar Routray and senior leader Sibananda Ray were on Monday morning staged demonstration here at the City Railway station and stopped Train services.

With Congress workers staged demonstration on railway tracks, officials of East Coast Railways have either cancelled or reschedule several Odisha bound Trains in view of the bandh, sources said.

The 6-hours long bandh over fuel price hike and other issues getting a partial response across the State with Congress workers are holding protesting meetings and demonstrations. All schools across the State remained closed for the day. This apart; all schools would also remain closed on Saraswati Puja on Tuesday.Private Bus Owners’ Association said the services would resume after 1 pm.

OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik said emergency services including ambulances, vehicles carrying milk, mediapersons and examinees of educational institutions and brides and grooms were exempted from the purview of the bandh.

All State Government employees working in Bhubaneswar have been advised by the Home Department to reach their respective offices by 9:30 in view of the bandh call.

“Officers and employees of Lok Seva Bhawan, Kharavela Bhawan, Rajiv Bhawan and Heads of Department Building, etc., may be advised to reach office latest by 9.30 am to facilitate their smooth entry,” the Home Department said in a notification.

The front gates of the Lok Seva Bhawan would be closed at 10.15 am and all the passage would be regulated through the rear gate. The connecting gate between the Red Building and Main Lok Seva Bhawan building remain open, it said.
