BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has discussed with the Central Inter-Ministerial Team regarding the assessment of extensive damages caused in Odisha due to Cyclone ‘Arnab’ and subsequent floods, and assistance for restoration.

The team, led by Joint Secretary Shri Ravishankar from the Ministry of Home Affairs, has visited the disaster-affected areas of Ganjam and Gajapati districts and assessed damages to agriculture, irrigation, roads and bridges, electricity, and housing. The team chief has informed that it will take another 7 to 8 days for the complete assessment of the damages. The state government has submitted a memorandum to the Central Team for compensation of disaster-induced damages, relief, and reconstruction works.

Along with this, the Chief Minister has emphasized the importance of permanent remedial measures to ensure that the state’s development works are not affected by recurrence of cyclones and floods, flood- and cyclone-resistant infrastructure, and long-term safety systems. In particular, discussions have also taken place on the need for desilting as a permanent solution to the accumulation of silt and sand in the Rushikulya River. On the other hand, the Central Team has appreciated the state government’s prompt relief and restoration efforts post-disaster.
