Chennai-bound Coromandel Express accident in Odisha: Death toll reaches at 239, more than 700 injured

BALASORE/BHUBANESWAR:  The death toll due to Chennai-bound Coromandel Express collision with Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express in Odisha’s Balasore, has reached at 239 and it may also rise as many have sustained severe injuries.

More than 700 injured persons have been shifted to various hospitals in Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack and many other places for further treatment.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered for State mourning for a day and hence no State celebration to take place on 3 June throughout the State.

CM Patnaik is visiting the accident site this morning while Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also rushing to the spot.

Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has reviewed the rescue operation at Control Room ,SRC, Bhubaneswar. CM has instructed to provide free medical treatment to all the injured victims in the BSKY facility hospitals and other private hospitals. Cost of medical expenses shall be borne by the State Government. 5-T Secretary V K Pandian also present at SRC and discussed about the rescue operation at the spot.
