BMC Spends around Rs 11 lakhs for feeding Stray Dogs for 53 days in City

 BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has spent around Rs 10.60 lakhs for feeding to the stray dogs and bulls in BMC area.

Information sought through RTI Act of 2005, BMC PIO-Cum Deputy Commissioner(ABC), said, out of the total Rs 10,60,000, Housing and Urban Development Department sanctioned Rs 7,40,000  while Rs 3,20,000 given from BMC funds for feeding for 53 days.

Earlier, Animal Welfare Board of India had written to Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories urging them to enlist ‘feed and fodder for large animals and food for companion and stray animals’ as essential service.

“It is requested to kindly issue necessary direction to all concerned authorities to create awareness amongst the public to take care of stray animals during the lockdown due to COVID-19,” the letter read.
