BHUBANESWAR:The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) felicitated the highest holding tax payers across the city as a mark of appreciation for their exemplary contribution towards civic development. The felicitation ceremony was held during which honorary plant saplings were presented to the top taxpayers.

A total of 90 highest holding tax payers—30 each from the North Zone, South-East Zone, and South-West Zone—were recognised by the respective zonal commissioners. The initiative not only acknowledges responsible taxpayers but also promotes environmental awareness, as the saplings symbolise a commitment to a greener and cleaner Bhubaneswar in line with the objectives of Swachh Survekshan.
BMC officials highlighted that the consistent and voluntary payment of holding tax and user fees by citizens is a positive indicator of growing civic responsibility. The revenue collected is reinvested into various developmental works, including construction of roads, improvement of drinking water supply, sanitation services, education, healthcare, and other essential civic amenities. These efforts significantly contribute to enhancing the overall quality of life in the city.
Among the top contributors, Sikshya ‘O’ Anusandhan University from the  South-West Zone paid  over ₹3 crore in holding tax, From North Zone, KIIT paid approximately ₹1.19 crore. while Crackers India Infrastructure Limited from the South-East Zone paid around ₹43 lakh.
On the occasion, Mayor Sulochana Das and Commissioner Chanchal Rana congratulated all taxpayers, especially the top contributors, for their role in the city’s progress. They urged citizens to continue supporting Bhubaneswar’s development by timely payment of taxes and user fees.
They emphasized that paying taxes is not only a legal obligation but also a matter of pride for residents of a Smart City like Bhubaneswar.
The honoured taxpayers also expressed their satisfaction, stating that contributing through taxes enable them to participate directly and indirectly in the city’s growth and infrastructure development. They reiterated that paying taxes is a shared responsibility and encouraged others to follow rule.
