BJP veteran Lalji Tandon Passes Away, PM condoles the Death

BHOPAL/NEW DELHI: Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon died on Tuesday morning. He was 85. Tandon’s demise was announced by his son Ashutosh. Tandon became minister in Kalyan Singh government in Uttar Pradesh and was later appointed urban development minister in the Mayawati regime of the BJP-BSP alliance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to Tandon’s family and said he will be remembered for his untiring efforts to serve society.

 Union defence minister Rajnath Singh expressed his grief over the death of the veteran politician. He tweeted that Tandon was popular among karyakartas (workers) and was committed towards development.

Tandon was admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Lucknow on June 11 with breathing problems, difficulty in urination and fever.

“Lalji Tandon was on ventilator following a minor surgery,” hospital director Dr Rakesh Kapoor said.He added, “Tandon was admitted at Medanta Hospital Lucknow on the morning of June 11 with problems in breathing, difficulty in urination and fever. He was kept under supervision of doctors.”

His Covid-19 sample was reported negative at the time of admission.After the operation, Tandon was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where his condition kept on deteriorating. He was under strict supervision of medical experts.
