Balangir’s Muribahal Police Station SI Saroj Ranjan Ratha caught Red Handed

BALANGIR/CUTTACK: The crorepati Police SI of Muribahal police station in Odisha’s western districts of Balangir district, Saroj Ranjan Ratha, was on Wednesday caught and arrested for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 by Sambalpur division of Vigilance sleuths. The SI Ratha originally hails from Shaktinagar Pada in Bhawanipatna block of Kalanhandi and has been posted at Muribahal police station in Odisha’s western districts of Balangir district.

SI Ratha, who has been a very poor track record, had demanded the bribe from complainant Sanjib Kumar Pradhan of Gudighata village to help in investigation of a case registered at the police station against his younger brother. On February 20, 2019, the police had registered a case against complainant’s younger brother Manas Pradhan under Sections- 493, 417, 294, 323, 506 and 376 (2)(n) of lPC.

Acting on the complaint, officials of Vigilance Sambalpur Division conducted a raid and caught the SI red-handed while he was accepting the bribe. The entire bribe money was later recovered.

Following the arrest, the Vigilance sleuths searched his office chamber, police barrack situated inside the police station campus and his residential building at Shaktinagar Pada in Bhawanipatna of Kalahandi district.
