60% women & children suffering from Anaemia, Malnutrition in Odisha: Smriti Irani

Bhubaneswar: Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani on Sunday took a jibe at Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government for failing on several fronts in Odisha.

Not only development, Naveen babu has also failed to provide adequate security to the women and children as nearly 60 percent of them are suffering from anaemia and malnourishment, alleged Irani.

The Union Minister made such comments today while addressing a presser ahead of Odisha BJP’s state executive meeting.

“At a time when the State government admitted in Assembly that over 60 percent women and children are suffering from anaemia and the state also tops in malnourishment rate, why Naveen babu opposed the Ayushman Bharat yojana and deprived poor people to avail the benefits of the central scheme ,” questioned Irani.

Urging the party workers to work for the ‘Mission 120’ plus, Irani stated that the target is not to come to power rather it is a target to bring in development to Odisha.

“It is a target to provide safe place to women, providing adequate diet to the children and at the same time it is a target to protect the interest of the farmers and a target to create job opportunities in Odisha,” said the union minister.

While raking up the issue of Odisha Textile Mills (OTM), Irani targeted Odisha government for not doing its bit to provide employment opportunities to youth.

“If Odisha government comes up with proposal regarding the OTM, the Centre will certainly take adequate steps in this regard,” Irani added.

Responding to the BJP allegations, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra stated that, “It seems that the Union Minister has not done her homework properly regarding the benefits of Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana which promises a health assurance of Rs 7 lakh to per person.”
