6.5 Kg Gold recovered, 15 arrested in Odisha’s Ganjam

BERHAMPUR: The Ganjam police cracked a gold loot case  and recovered stolen gold jewellery weighing 6.5 kg and arrested 15 persons, including mastermind Ghanashyam Behera alias Kalia (30) involved in the incident. The cops recovered 6.501 kg gold jewellery and Rs 4,44,500 cash , a DVR of CCTV, a mobile phone among other instruments from their possession.

The 15 accused include 18-year-old Amit Behera, who supplied information regarding layout of spot house to Kalia Behera and also assisted him during robbery.It may be noted here that , on October 12, miscreants broke into the house of a gold trader in Purushotampur area in the district and looted jewellery worth crores and cash from his house.

The other accused are Kalia Das (20), Trinath Behera alias Bagha (20), Kanhu Charan Pattanaik (20), Sankar Bahera (24) and Swarajya Das (21) of Purushottampur, Pintu Nahak (26), Bulu Nahak (30) and Sanyasi Nahak (30) of Kabisuryanagar in Ganjam.

Besides, police arrested five others- D. Dipu Acharya (30), Santosh Acharya (26), P Bira Bhadra Rao (36), Nand Kishore Bhagat (37) and Mithun Behera (25) for buying the stolen property.

Purushottampur PS case no-276 dated 13.10.20 U/S 457/ 380 IPCOn 13.10.2020 the complainant Sri Surendra Kumar Nayak (52) s/o- Biswanath Nayak ofvillage Changudiapadar Sahi, Purusottampur, PS-Purusottampur, Dist. Ganjam lodged a written report alleging that on 12/13.10.2020 night some unknown culprits entered into his house by breaking open the door of the terrace and committed night burglary in respect of gold ornaments more than one crores, by breaking open wooden Almirah and also took away two mobile phones, DVR of CCTV and stabilizer.

During investigation got information from the reliable source that the accused persons  had committed theft from the house of Sri Surendra Kumar Nayak (52) s/o- Biswanath Nayak of village Changudiapadar Sahi, Purusottampur. On this information conducted raid and apprehended the accused persons (list enclosed) on 10.11.2020.

On interrogation, it was ascertained that accused Kalia @ Ghanashyama Behera is a master mind of this crime and he collected information from one Amit Behera of Naitala Sahi, Purusottampur who was working as an assistant of the complainant regarding availability of gold ornaments and entrance door in to the house. After collecting information he contacted the above named accused persons, chalked out plan and attempted thrice to commit burglary but could not succeed.

On further interrogation they confessed that on 12/13.10.2020 night they entered into the house of the complainant by breaking open the door of the terrace and committed night burglary in respect of gold ornaments more than one Crores, by breaking open wooden Almirah and also took away two mobile phones,DVR of CCTV and stabilizer.
