Dharmendra Pradhan reviews the progress of Geographical Areas awarded in 9-10th CGD Bidding

BHUBANESWAR/ NEW DELHI: Union PNG-Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan along with senior officials from MoPNG reviewed the progress of Geographical areas (GAs) awarded in 9th & 10th CGD bidding rounds with Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board and CGD entities.

Out of 136 GAs awarded in these rounds, financial closure has been achieved for 101 GAs and gas supply agreements have been signed for 112 GAs. Entities are putting their best efforts to achieve targets in view of conditions prevailing in the country post lockdown.

CGD entities have planned a CAPEX of about ₹10,000 Crore in this FY for the development of PNG/CNG services.CGD entities informed Pradhan that they are exploring options for domestic manufacturing of compressors, cascades and other ancillary equipment used in CGD networks as a part of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

Last year, CGD entities have developed over 500 new CNG stations and with the commencement of ground work in areas awarded in 9th and 10th bidding round, additional 600 stations have been planned to be developed in this year.

Earlier Pradhan held a discussion through Video Conference with Dr. Mohammed Barkindo, Secretary General, Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).Discussions focused on current developments in global energy markets and crude oil price trends in the midst of Covid-19-induced challenges and in the run-up to the OPEC meetings later this month.

Minister Pradhan highlighted the need for producing and consuming countries to take responsible steps in the coming days to enable revival of fragile economic situation globally. He noted that gradual economic recovery is expected which will revive oil growth, and thus care should be taken not to upset the fragile balance between supply and demand achieved so far.Minister Pradhan stressed on OPEC’s role in stabilising oil markets, and agreed to work in close collaboration with OPEC countries for India’s energy security and also for global energy stability in the current challenging environment.

Barkindo invited Pradhan to take part in the 8th OPEC International Seminar which will be held in Vienna on the 16th and 17th of June 2021.Both sides agreed to hold the India-OPEC High level Dialogue in July 2020 through DVC. Barkindo conveyed deep appreciation and admiration of India’s efforts in managing the pandemic and reviving the economic activities in the country.
