With Expansion is in Full Swing, Naveen Jindal meets Union Steel Minister RCP Singh in Udyog Bhavan

BHUBANESWAR/NEW DELHI: With major expansion work going in Odisha’s Angul and as well as several other facilities in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, Jindal Steel and Power Limited Chairman, Naveen Jindal on Thursday met Union Steel Minister RCP Singh at Udyog Bhavan in New Delhi.

“Met @MPNaveenJindal in Udyog Bhavan today,” Union Steel Minister RCP Singh tweeted @RCP_Singh. Both JSPL Chairman and Union Minister Singh, discussed wide range of issues and recent decision of PLI Scheme for specialty steel also figured in the discussion, sources in Union Steel Ministry said. JSPL Chairman also briefed the Union Minister about on going expansion works  , including major expansion work in Odisha.

It may be noted that the detailed guidelines for the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, covering 5 broad product categories of specialty steel with an outlay of ₹6,322 crores to be released over 5 years, have been notified on 20th October, 2021. The scheme envisages production-linked incentive to companies registered under the Companies Act, 2013, which qualify through the application process given in the guidelines and achieve committed incremental production prescribed for each product sub-category and make minimum prescribed investment in creating new capacity for manufacturing the applied product sub-category.

Ministry organized a seminar on the scheme on 25th October, 2021 in which all major domestic steel companies including Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) participated. Decisions regarding investment are taken by various companies including SAIL on commercial considerations and market dynamics. Various arrangements have been made for inviting applications from the interested parties.

Few days, back, Union Coal Secretary Anil Kumar Jain has paid a visit to Naveen Jindal led Jindal Steel and Power Limited’s Angul facility in Odisha and held discussion with Company officials over coal gasification plant in Angul. JSPL’s plant is World’s 1st plant supplying Syn. Gas to DRI Plant.

India aims for 100 million tonnes (MT) coal gasification by 2030 with investments worth over Rs. 4 lakh Crores. The Government has provided for a concession of 20% on revenue share of coal used for gasification. Coal Gasification and Liquefaction are well in the government’s agenda and various actions have been taken for development of Surface Coal Gasification in India.

JSPL operates the world’s first coal gasification based DRI plant of 2.0 million tonne capacity at Angul in Odisha, where syngas is used to make direct-reduced iron (DRI) or sponge iron, an input required in the steel-making process. JSPL’s coal gasification plant capacity is 225,000 NM3 per hour of syngas, which is supporting the 2.0 million MT of syngas based DRI plant.

JSPL Chairman Naveen Jindal has been continued to peruse  JSPL’s plan to expand the Angul steel plant’s capacity from 6 MTPA to 25.2 MTPA by 2030 ,which will be the largest Plant in the World in a single location as per present capacities.
