PM –CM Condoles demise of Noted Economist Prof Radhamohan

NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the demise of Noted Economist and Environmentalist Prof Radhamohan Ji.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “Prof Radhamohan Ji was deeply passionate about agriculture, especially adopting sustainable and organic practices. He was also respected for his knowledge on subjects relating to the economy and ecology. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, in his condolence message, said economist-turned-environmentalist had immense contribution to sustainable organic farming.

 Odisha-born Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan termed Prof Radhamohan’s death as an irreparable loss to State’s organic farming sector. 

Former State Information Commissioner and retired Economics Professor Padma Shri Radhamohan passed away while under treatment at a private hospital here in wee hours on Friday. He was 78.

Prof Radhamohan, a Gandhian and an eminent environmentalist, was ailing since last few months and was undergoing treatment in an ICU of hospital for last few days. He was being treated for pneumonia, hospital sources said.

Prof Radhamohan retired as Principal of SCS College in Puri before joining as a State Information Commissioner.  Both he and his daughter Sabarmatee, a conservationist, were conferred with Padma Shri last year for their 30-year-long efforts to transform a barren land into a lush food forest in Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
