CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR: In a noteworthy development, the Orissa High Court on Thursday granted divorce to BJD Kendrapara Lok Sabha MP Anubhav Mohanty from his actress wife Varsha Priyadarshini.
Mohanty’s counsel emphasized the court’s focus on the evidence, leading to the divorce approval, with no ruling on alimony.
The HC reversed the ruling of the Cuttack family court that had earlier rejected the divorce petition of the couple.
Family Court had rejected Mohanty’s divorce petition on September 22. It had also overruled the plea for restitution of conjugal rights filed by Varsha.
Following this, Mohanty had moved the High Court on October 17 challenging the lower court’s verdict.
It may be noted here that Mohanty had initially filed the divorce petition before a court in Delhi in July 2020 citing non-consummation of marriage. Later, the matter was transferred to the family court in Cuttack following the direction of the Supreme Court in March 2021.
MP Mohanty got married in the 2014 and before that from 2008 he was in relationship with the actress Varsha.
