BHUBANESWAR: The BJP National Spokesperson, Dr Sambit Patra on Sunday demanded stern action against BJD’s suspended Chilka MLA , Prashant Jagdev, who ran over BJP workers injuring more than 20 Saffron Party workers and also some police men. Dr Patra alleged that Odisha gradually turning like West Bengal, where poll related violence are on rise. Dr Patra also alleged that most of the injured were women.
“Why was Prashant Jagdev not expelled from the BJD despite the kind of violence he had been participating in the past,” asked Dr Patra. The BJP leader termed Prashant Jagdev’s suspension as a farce and drama. Dr Patra added that , BJP backed to power in 4 States like Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Goa and Uttarakhand but not a single case of poll related violence reported from any State after the poll results were out, Dr Patra added.
Dr Patra along with State President of Odisha, Samir Mohanty and General secretary Pritwiraj Harichandan visited the injured and enquired about their treatment here at AIIMS.
The BJP said “ଖୋର୍ଦ୍ଧା ଜିଲ୍ଲା ଚିଲିକା ବିଜେଡ଼ି ବିଧାୟକ ପ୍ରଶାନ୍ତ ଜଗଦେବ ବାଣପୁର ଠାରେ ବ୍ଲକ ଅଧ୍ୟକ୍ଷ ନିର୍ବାଚନ ବେଳେ ନୀରିହ ବିଜେପି କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକର୍ତ୍ତା, ଜନତା ଓ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟରତ ପୋଲିସ କର୍ମଚାରୀଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଗାଡ଼ି ଚଢ଼ାଇଦେବା ଘଟଣା ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଦୁଃଖ ଦାୟକ ।,”ଏହି ଘଟଣାରେ ଆହତ ଓ ସଙ୍କଟାପନ୍ନ ଥିବା ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଙ୍କୁ ବିଜେପି ରାଜ୍ୟ ସଭାପତି ଭୁବନେଶ୍ଵର ଏମ୍ସ ହସ୍ପିଟାଲରେ ସାକ୍ଷାତ କରି ତାଙ୍କ ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟବସ୍ଥା ବିଷୟରେ ବୁଝିବା ସହ ଆହତଙ୍କ ଆଶୁ ଆରୋଗ୍ୟ କାମନା କରିଛନ୍ତି ।, the BJP said.
According to reports, MLA Jagadev had allegedly ran his car into a group of people who had come to attend the Banpur block chairperson election. Following the incident, around 20 to 25 persons including women and police personnel were injured. Locals and eyewitness alleged that suspended BJD MLA from Chilka , Jagdev in intoxicated mood ran over BJP workers in Banpur of Khordha district.
In September last year, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had suspended Jagadev following a video that has gone viral in which the MLA was thrashing a BJP leader of his Chilika constituency.
Central IGP Narasingha Bhol said that Jagdev is under Police custody. He is under treatment and will be arrested after recovering. “We have taken serious note of the brutal act by the legislator. A DSP-ranked officer has been given the responsibility of the probe. Many people have recorded the barbaric incident in their cellphones. That electronic evidence will be brought under the purview of investigation,” said IGP Bhol.
