Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Hails Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood’s Noble Gesture

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was on Friday hailed the Bollywood actor Sonu Sood for his noble gesture to stranded people and airlifted Odia girls to Bhubaneswar.

“Thank Bollywood actor Sonu Sood for coming forward to help #Odisha girls, stranded in Kerala during nationwide #COVID19 lockdown, to reach home safe. His humanitarian gesture is indeed commendable,” the Odisha CM Patnaik twitted.

Earlier, Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has airlifted 177 girls from Ernakulam in Kerala to Bhubaneswar in Odisha. These Odia girls, mostly from Rajnagar Assembly segment of State’s coastal districts of Kendrapara,  were stranded in Ernakulam area of Kerala, due to nation-wide lockdown imposed to contain COVID-19.

The migrant Odia girls reached at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar in a special flight with the help of actor Sonu Sood.

They were working as stitching and embroidery workers at a local factory and had noweher to go when the factory closed due to the COVID-19.Sonu’s Ghar Bhejo Initiate came to know about the matter and had taken steps , so that all returned safely from Kerala.

 Sources said, “Since it was difficult to send these girls via road, Sonu and his team airlifted them from Cochin airport. Both the Cochin and Bhubaneswar airport operated for few hours. A special aircraft has been called from Bengaluru to airlift the girls from Kochi and moved to Bhubaneswar.
