BHUBANESWAR: Once senior Journalist Swapan Dasgupta termed Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is like an enigma. Till date, BJD Boss remained as a critical mathematics for all mainstream political leaders.
The proposed meeting of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar with his Odisha counterpart , Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas on Tuesday , seems , may not fetched any good results since BJD supremo now not in a mood to humiliate BJP central leadership including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Nitish Kumar is expected to take lunch at Naveen Niwas , where he will discuss about Non-BJP and Non-Congress Political front. Considering Naveen Patnaik’s close proximity with BJP’s Central leadership, the proposed meeting may not fetch any final results and the Bihar CM is expected to back to Patna with empty hands.
Naveen Patnaik is known for his neutral politics in Odisha, trying to be equidistant from both the BJP and the Congress. However, in the last few years, the BJP is trying to make inroads in the coastal state and Nitish Kumar is looking to utilise this gap to draw Patnaik into the opposition ambit. Nitish Kumar’s mission is very simple, to unite non-BJP parties against the Narendra Modi-Amit Shah combine, which has run the Central Government since 2014. Both Naveen and Nitish were former allies of the BJP led NDA. When Naveen kept himself out of the NDA in the run up to the 2009 general elections, Nitish has recently dropped BJP. Both were also Members in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government.
There is no guarantee that Naveen would support the regional parties. He may or may not, say political analysts, because of the past records of the BJD President. Naveen, who has been ruling the state for the last 23 years, has his own calculations and based on that he has successfully been in power. He does not take any reference from either Nitish or Mamata. Naveen has his own formula and applies it for which he is performing well for all the years and never fails to meet the target.
If Patnaik joins the opposition, it would be a big achievement for Nitish Kumar. CM Nitish Kumar is coming to Odisha on Tuesday and he will go go Maharashtra on May 11 to meet NCP chief Sharad Pawar and former CM Uddhav Thackeray.
