BHUBANESWAR: Income Tax officials were conducting raids at 5 places against TP Mohanty Mines under Joda mining circle of Odisha’s Keonjhar. Raids conducted at Naibaga Iron and Manganese Mines office, Petrol Pump at Joda, Tarini Prasad Mohanty’s Residences in Joda and Bhubaneswar.
During the raids, IT sleuths verified documents and bank details of TP Mohanty mines. Hard disk of computer and other documents were also verified. IT officials also estimated mining operations, production and dispatch details. IT sleuths examining TP Mohanty’s assets in last 8 years. Mohanty, besides, a mines owner, he also owned 2 petrol pumps, 3 Hotels and several residential flats, sources said. Earlier, there were many allegations against Mohanty including violation of mining rules.
It may be noted here that TP Mohanty and his son Arpit were earlier arrested for attacking police.
“Joda-Barbil being a mining area, here everything is decided by the whims of mines owners who think themselves as though above law and nobody can take any action them and the IT raids on TP Mohanty Mines , has exposed the scams in mining areas,” sources said
