IT Raids on KJS Ahluwalia Group may Unearth Tax Evasion worth Rs 100 Crore

BHUBANESWAR: KJS Ahluwalia Group run by Ahluwalia Brothers read, Kamaljit Singh Ahluwalia, Prashant Ahluwalia and Pawan Ahluwalia may find themselves in trouble after the Income Tax Department zeroing in on the Group to unearth Tax evasion worth Rs 100 Crore by KJS Cement Industries in Madhya Pradesh. It may be noted here that Ahluwalia Brothers played a key role in Odisha mining scam and looted Crores from State’s mining zone till their running mining block snatched away by Sajjan Jindal’s JSW Steel and Laxmi Mittal’s AMNS in last bidding.

I-T sleuths made multiple searches in various premises belonging to the cement manufacturer located at Maihar, Satna, Delhi and Jaipur and likely to conduct raids at Joda, Barbil and Rourkela in Odisha in next few days, sources said. It may be recalled that in August this year, the GST intelligence officials had detected over Rs 17 crore tax evasion by the KJS Cement and had arrested one of its Directors.

The income-tax department has been conducting raids on his business premises for six days.

I-T team has begun to evaluate Ahluwahalia’s mining business to know how much money he earned and how much of it he paid as tax. Ahluwalia Group also deals in steel and mining. Most of his mining businesses are in Odisha. The department is also using Geo technology to evaluate his businesses.

Earlier, Ahluwalia’s benami properties were attached. An income-tax officer said his team had found many documents during raid on the business premises of Ahluwalia. A preliminary investigation of the documents indicates his company has evaded huge amount of tax, the officer said.

In view of the serious offences committed and the evidences collected, two directors of the company were identified as organiser and financial beneficiary of this GST evasion case. One of the directors was arrested on 12th August, 2020 under the provisions of Central GST Act, 2017.

Another director did not join the investigations despite being summoned for three times. He produced a medical opinion regarding Covid-19 symptoms. However, he has now absconded and is being traced by the officials, the DGGI had said. The absconding director had been earlier convicted for offence under Indian Penal Code in the coal block allocation case by the Delhi District court in the year 2017, sources added.
