BHUBANESWAR: The Naveen Patnaik led Odisha Government on Friday announced SGST waiver on the movie ’12th Fail’ based on the inspirational story of Manoj Sharma, a 2005-batch Maharashtra cadre IPS officer, which will encourage people to watch it.
12th Fail is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language biographical drama film produced, written and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
In order to promote such a movie for greater interest, the Odisha Government has been pleased to provide to tax benefit to the film to encourage public to watch Cinema halls, multiplex and Malls will have to sold tickets with charging SGST.
‘The Tickets sold for entry to exhibition of ‘12th Fail’ during the period of this order shall bear prominently the words ‘ State GST not collected by the orders of the Government of Odisha’, Joint Secretary , Odisha Finance Department said.
‘The Cinema halls, Theatres, multiplex shall neither increase the amount of entry fee nor shall make any change in the capacity of seats in different classes,’ the Odisha Government Finance Department order said.
‘The State GST collected prior to the date of effect of this order or collected after the prescribed period, shall not be reimbursed,’ it said
It may be noted here that the film is based on the 2019 eponymous non-fiction book by Anurag Pathak about the real-life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma who overcame extreme poverty to become an Indian Police Service officer. The film stars Vikrant Massey in the title role, alongside Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee. Released theatrically on 27 October 2023.
