BHUBANESWAR: The 2009 batch Odisha cadre IAS officer Bijoy Ketan Upadhayay was in trouble. Vigilance sleuths on Monday caught an IAS officer red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 1 lakh as bribe.
He is currently posted as director of the Horticulture department.Sources said, Upadhyay had demanded bribe from one for passing the bill. Acting on the allegation, the anti-corruption wing laid a trap and caught the officer red-handed while accepting the illegal gratification.
Following this, simultaneous raids are also being carried out at his residence and office. Reportedly, several documents and papers are being verified.
As per the latest report, the accused IAS officer has been placed under suspension by the State Government. “Transparency is an important pillar of this government and we will not spare anyone indulging in any corrupt practices,” an official statement read
.Sources revealed that Upadhyaya was caught red-handed by the Vigilance wing sleuths while he was accepting a bribe from a farmhouse owner for passing a bill.
