BERHAMPUR: First ever capesize vessel receives at Gopalpur port in Odisha carrying 105,000 tonnes of limestone. The Gopalpur Port, which now handles cargo with three berths, has a target to increase its capacity to 55-million-tonne-per-annum by 2025, according to port sources.

The JSPL, one of the Gopalpur Port’s major customers, imported 105,000 tonnes of steel-grade limestone from the Middle East in the ship owned by the Essar Shipping.

Notably, the Gopalpur Port has now undertaken an expansion programme, which includes dredging of its channel to enable it to receive large ships. With the completion of dredging, the port is capable of receiving modern, large-size ships that can cater to the needs of its customers.

“We are very proud to have successfully handled a vessel carting 105,000 tonnes on October 12. In a short time, the Shapoorji Pallonji Group has made significant progress in making the Gopalpur Port a world-class port,” said Shapoorji Pallonji Port Maintenance Pvt Ltd Managing Director Amit Saboo.
