PURI/BHUBANESWAR:  Tens of thousands of devotees were on Thursday throng to pilgrimage city of Puri after the four gates of the 12th century old Hindu shrine were opened following visit of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo, Prabhati Parida and Cabinet Colleagues early this morning.

Chief Minister Majhi offered prayers at Jagannath temple where all four gates of the temple were opened for devotees. Puri MP Sambit Patra,  and leaders of the party were are also present.

CM Majhi and other leaders of the party also performed ‘Parikrama’ of the Jagannath temple.

CM Majhi said  “We had proposed to open all the four gates of Jagannath Temple in yesterday’s cabinet meeting. The proposal was passed and today at 6:30 am, I along with my MLAs and Puri MP (Sambit Patra) attended the ‘Mangala aarti’… For the development of the Jagannath Temple and for other works, we have proposed a fund in the cabinet. When we present the next state budget, we will allot a corpus fund of Rs 5 crores for the temple management,”.

In its first Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi approved a proposal to re-open all four gates of Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri on early Thursday morning and set up a corpus fund for immediate requirement of the 12th-century shrine.

Only 1 gate was opened since 2020 folliwung the outbreak of COVID-19 while demands were made from several quarters to open the rest 3 gates, which BJP had promised during that last Parliamentary and Assembly polls.
