CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR: BJD Leader and Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantray on Monday reacted to Orissa High Court verdict, which annulled the election of Congress leader Mohammed Moquim’s election as Cuttack-Babarati MLA.
Samantray while reacting to the development, said, after the verdict of HC, Mohammed Moquim should be not be called as former MLA as his election was illegal and unconstitutional.
“I will go through the entire verdict and I also sought action against Returning Officer, who was then Cuttack Sub –Collector, for this farce ,” Samantray said. He said, HC verdict was an eye-opener for all RO across India. The RO in convenience with the Congress leader created such false affidavit and ensured the winning, he alleged.
Orissa HC annulled the election of Cuttack-Babarati Congress MLA Moquim for failing to furnish detailed information regarding criminal cases against him in an affidavit during the filing of nomination.
Earlier, a petition was filed in the Orissa HC in 2019 seeking the cancellation of the election to Barabati-Cuttack Assembly seat. Samantaray had alleged that Moquim has masked a few facts in his affidavit while submitting his nomination papers.
