B Prabhakaran’s Thriveni Group to float New Venture with Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited to expand Mining Operations

RAJKANIKA/KENDRAPARA (ODISHA): Tamil Nadu’s Salem born and Odisha based Mining Contractor, B Prabhakaran, who owns, Thriveni Earth Movers Pvt Ltd, is in talks with Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd for signing a MoU to a new joint venture company for Mining Operations, sources in Bhubaneswar, about 120 km from here said.  The Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd, Chairman Mukesh Rajnarayan Gupta and MD Babulal Kesar Deo Agarwal are in touch with Thriveni Earth Movers Pvt Ltd’s B Prabhakaran,” sources added.

Sources keeping a close watch on this development, said on Tuesday that, Board of Directors of Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd, which was met few days back, will take a final call on the issue. LMEL has Iron ore beneficiation plant at Kondsari under Chamorshi, of Gadchiroli in Maharashtra.

Sources said, the Maharashtra based Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd, for raw material security and as a captive source of iron ore for the sponge iron plant, the Company had successfully been allotted a mining lease at Surjagarh Iron Ore Mine (Wooria Hills) over an area of 348.09 ha situated at Village-Surjagarh, Etapalli Taluka in the Gadchiroli District of Maharashtra.

 The Mining lease deed was executed on 3rd of May, 2007 for 20 years and the Government of Maharashtra has granted approval for a further extension of 30 years. This will help secure the company from rising input costs from elsewhere, and work towards an even more profitable operation and expansion.

Presently the Company also doing iron ore mining process in Gadchiroli by open cast method at Surjagarh (Wooria Hills) for captive generation of Hematite iron ore. This is the biggest operating iron ore mine in Gadchiroli District of Maharashtra. Thriveni Earth Movers Pvt Ltd had got Lasarda-Pacheri manganese blocks in Keonjhar in Odisha by pasy 44.65 per cent premium to Naveen Patnaik led Government in 2017.

Earlier in April this year, Thriveni Earth Movers Pvt Ltd and Indonesia’s PT Darma Henwa Tbk (DEWA) had agreed on a joint venture company establishment and consultancy cooperation with Indian mining services company Thriveni Resomin Pte Ltd.

The agreement had signed by President Director of Darma Henwa Saptari Hoedaja and Managing Director of Thriveni Earthmovers Pvt Ltd, Balasubramanian Prabhakaran. Darma Henwa along with Thriveni would establish a joint venture subsidiary which engages in heavy equipment provision, heavy equipment maintenance, and other services. The subsidiary will also open an engineering excellence centre in Bengalon, East Kalimantan.

In February this year, a proposal of Thriveni Earthmovers  had been approved by the Naveen Patnaik led Government in Odisha , for setting up 30 MTPA underground Slurry Pipe Line, with a total investment of Rs. 948.90 crores, which will create employment opportunities for 217 people.

In December 2019, B Prabhakaran, the Tamil Nadu’s Salem born mining contractor, who owns Thriveni Earthmovers Private Ltd and India’s largest energy conglomerate NTPC’s flagship Pakri Barwadih Coal Mining Project Jharkhand had implemented “intelligent mine”. Prabhakaran works in dozen over iron ore mines in Odisha’s Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj belt.

Thriveni had awarded Zyfra the contract to implement its Intelligent Mine solution at PBCMP.Zyfra’s mining division (formerly – VIST Group) is one of the global leaders in the automation of large mining companies in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
