BHUBANESWAR: The sensational Anjana Mishra case of the late 90s , has again hit headlines with victim of the case, has warned the director and producer not to shoot the web series ‘Barang 1999’( A Woman’s Fight that Changed Odisha Politics Forever). The web series having nine episodes is slated to be released in March, 2023.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Mishra said , she came to know about it through newspaper, today. She expressed surprised as to how with her consent, OTT platform Kanccha Lannka is planning such a movie.
“I was shocked as I had no prior information. They neither held any discussion with me nor sought my permission. I warn them not to make the web series. If they do so, I will move the court of law for action against them,” said Anjana Mishra.
OTT platform Kanccha Lannka has announced its upcoming web series namely ‘Barang 1999’ which will showcase the sensational Anjana Mishra case. Concept was written by Dilip Bisoi while writer is Saroj Mohapatra and directed by Ajay Padhi.
It mabe noted here that Anjana Mishra rape case was a high-profile rape case that occurred in state of Odisha in 1999. Anjana Mishra, ex-wife of an Indian Forest Service officer Subash Chandra Mishra, was raped on 9 January 1999. The case had created a furore in the State with Anjana accusing the then Chief Minister J. B. Patnaik and his friend former Advocate-General of Odisha Indrajit Ray of having played a role in the incident.The rape case spoiled the Congress’s image. The party president Sonia Gandhi had replaced the Chief Minister JB Patnaik by Giridhar Gamang.
Two of the culprits were arrested on 26 January 1999, and remanded to judicial custody, while the 3rd accused, Biban Biswal, after 22 years on the run, was arrested by the Odisha police on 22 February 2021 from Pune in Maharashtra.
