BHUBANESWAR: Nihar Ranjan Mohanty, IIC, Mahanga Police limits of Cuttack, who was on run after his wife, Nina Beura, Rayagada Excise Superintendent arrested by Vigilance with Rs 6 Lakh cash bribe money, appears at Bhubaneswar Vigilance office on Saturday.
The IIC Mohanty refutes knowing about Vigilance raid on assets following the arrest of his wife; says ‘Vigilance could have informed me yesterday. I came to know about the development today only after Additional SP contacted me. I was searching for my wife as I could not contact her.’
Following interception, searches are being done at different residential areas of Smt Beura and her relatives. Her husband, Sri Nihar Ranjan Mohanty, IIC, Mahanga PS, on getting tip off, left Mahanga PS to evade search. The Vigilance team, on reaching his quarter at Mahanga, found it locked and the IIC untraceable. He has been asked to report to BBSR Vig Division for enquiry. Searches continuing. The Vigilance said, late night on Friday. around 11.30PM ,based on credible information about proceeding of Smt Nina Beura, Superintendent of Excise, Rayagada from Rayagada to Bhubaneswar carrying ill gotten money collected from different sources, she was intercepted by a team of Odisha Vigilance near Bhubaneswar .During interception Rs 6 Lakhs was recovered from her possession, which she could not account for satisfactorily.After she failed to give details about possession of huge cash with her, Vigilance sleuths arrested her on Saturday.
