CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR: Shanti Memorial Hospital in Cuttack celebrated World Heart Day on 28th and 29th September 2023. On the 28th, an in-house seminar was held where Dr. Priyadarshi Tripathy, Consultant Cardiologist, and Prof. Dr. Gandharba Ray, Medicine Specialist, spoke about the importance of managing risk factors like quitting smoking, regular exercise, healthy eating, and stress management. They emphasized that by controlling these factors, 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke can be prevented.
The celebration continued on 29th September with a morning walkathon aimed at raising awareness. The walkathon started from Shanti Memorial Hospital and passed through major routes in Cuttack city. Many well-known cardiologists, actors, doctors, nurses, paramedics, and hospital staff participated, carrying awareness signs.
Before the event, Dr. Priyadarshi Tripathy, Consultant Cardiologist along with Prof. Dr. Mrutyunjay Behera – eminent cardiologist, Dr. Gandharba Ray – eminent Medicine specialist, Dr. Avijit Prusty – Emergency Medicine and Dr. Raja Ghose – Clinical Pathology, addressed the gathering. They highlighted that World Heart Day is a global campaign encouraging individuals, families, and governments to promote heart health. They also stressed the importance of the World Heart Federation’s efforts in uniting people worldwide to reduce the burden of cardiovascular diseases.
The event was organized by Prof. Dr. Rekha Das, Executive Director, under the guidance of Dr. Sreejoy Patnaik, Managing Director. Key officers including Mr. Pramod Pani (Head of HR), Mr. Pratap Behera (Marketing Manager), and Mr. Deepak Mallick conducted the program and led the walkathon. Renowned actor Sritam Dash also attended, inspiring participants to follow heart-healthy practices.
