KOIDA: A workshop on ‘Safe Storage, Transportation, Handling and Usage of Explosives in Mines’ was successfully conducted at the TRB Iron Ore Mines of Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) in Tensa under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Bhubaneswar Region-II.
The event brought together representatives from approximately 35 mining companies, with 104 participants across various roles critical to mine safety.
The workshop was led by Shri P R Thakur, Director of Mines Safety, DGMS Bhubaneswar Region-II, and Shri U Shiv Sankar, Deputy Director of Mines Safety, DGMS Bhubaneswar Region-II. Key discussions revolved around methodologies implemented by regional mining companies to adhere to DGMS guidelines for the safe transportation and handling of minimal need based explosives, aimed at preventing accidents.
Participants, including Agents, Managers, Safety Officers, and Blasting In-Charges, engaged in detailed deliberations and gained practical insights into best practices for need based minimal explosive management. The session underscored the importance of fostering a strong safety culture across mining operations and offered actionable knowledge to enhance safety protocols.
Shri Pramod Kumar Patra, Executive Vice President, JSP and Shri Raghuraj Raghuvanshi, Unit Head, TRB Iron Mines, were also present, further emphasizing the organization’s commitment to mine safety. They underscored for JSP Safety comes First.
The DGMS continues to prioritize safety and awareness initiatives to mitigate risks associated with explosive use in mining activities. This workshop served as a vital platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing among industry professionals.
