Works to Review and Revamp NCC is in Full Swing, Says Baijayant Panda

BHUBANESWAR/NEW DELHI:  Initial works of High Level Expert Committee to review and revamp NCC, is in full swing and talks are on with all stake holders including Defence top brasses from Indian Army, Navy and Airforce to know the current status and plans to be implemented next for the NCC, said, Committee Chairperson and BJP National VP Baijayant ‘Jay Panda said in a tweet on Wednesday.

The NCC is the largest uniformed organisation in India ,  which aims at developing character, discipline, a secular outlook and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. It also aims to create a pool of organised, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life.

Besides, the Chairperson Panda, who is also a former 4th times MP from Odisha, NCC DG Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, committee members  former Indian Skipper MS Dhoni, Industrialist Anada Mahendra and others joined a virtual meeting to discuss the issue relating to NCC.

“The work of the committee to review the NCC is in full swing. Yesterday we held a detailed meeting with the Defence brass on the current status & initiatives already begun. Both my fellow members’ keen queries, & their crisp, relevant responses & domain knowledge were impressive,” High Level Expert committee chairperson, Baijayant Jay Panda tweeted @PandaJay.

Ministry of Defence had constituted a High Level Expert Committee, under the chairmanship of former MP Baijayant Panda, for a comprehensive review of National Cadet Corps (NCC) in order to make it more relevant in changed times. The Terms of Reference of the Committee, inter-alia, broadly provide for suggesting measures which can empower NCC cadets to contribute more effectively towards nation building and national developmental efforts in various sectors; propose measures for gainful engagement of its Alumni for betterment of the organisation as a whole and to study/recommend best practices of similar international youth organisations for inclusion in the NCC curriculum.
