Why Odisha keeps mum on water tax of Industries touching Rs 3,225 crore?

BHUBANESWAR: Water Resources Minister Raghunandan Das informed the State Assembly in response to a question of CPM MLA Laxman Munda on Thursday that various industries, mines and other factories owe total water tax of Rs 3225.47 crore to the State Government as of now and, of this, dues of Rs 2,461.57 crore lying uncollected for cases filed in courts by different companies.

The Minister informed that the Government has filed a miscellaneous case in the High Court to collect 50 per cent of pending water tax from the companies that have filed cases in courts. Central/State PSUs owe a total of water tax of Rs 203.94 crore to the Government.

Executive Engineers have been asked to take steps as per the Odisha Public Demand Recovery Act 1962 to collect water tax dues from closed industries, he said.
