VP-PM Condoles the death of Former Odisha CM Hemananda Biswal

NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: The Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled the death of former Odisha CM Hemananda Biswal, who passed away in Bhubaneswar while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.He was 82.

“Saddened by the demise of former Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Hemananda Biswal. In his long political career, he always championed the cause of the people & will be remembered for his commitment to the development of Odisha. My thoughts are with his bereaved family & followers,” the VP Naidu said.

The Prime Minister,  Modi has expressed deep grief over the passing away of former Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Hemananda Biswal.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said;”Anguished by the passing away of former Odisha CM Shri Hemananda Biswal Ji. He was active in public life for many years and worked extensively among people. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family and supporters. Om Shanti.”

He was the first Tribal chief Minister of Odisha.  Biswal was a leader of the Indian National Congress, was in office from 7 December 1989 to 5 March 1990 and again from 6 December 1999 to 5 March 2000. He was elected as an MP from the Sundargarh constituency in 2009.He was also elected to the Odisha Legislative as an MLA six times from Laikera constituency in the Jharsuguda district.
