NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: Amid tension in Odisha’s western district of Sambalpur and the State Government’s move to shut down internet services for next 48 hours, has invited criticism from BJP.
BJP National VP in charge of Assam and Delhi, and former MP, Baijayant Jay Panda said the law and order situation in Odisha has completely collapsed; the situation is such that the police are unable to protect themselves. The incident of stone pelting on a procession organized before the Hanuman Jayanti ceremony in Sambalpur has left many policemen and devotees seriously injured. All peace-loving citizens should express concern on this.

‘It has come to the notice of the State Government that on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti Sobhayatra, Motor Cycle rally undertaken by Hanuman Jayanti Samanyoya Samiti members , Bajarang Dal workers in Sambalpur and there were clashes between Hindus and Muslims and the situation is critical and miscreants are circulating false and inflammatory messages through social media to disturb the public order, ‘ the letter of DK Singh, Additional Secretary (Home) said.
‘In order to prevent the spread of such inflammatory and motivated messages to circulate in social media to disturb the public order in Sambalpur and to restore peace and amity, the Government suspended internet services for next 48 hours,” said the Government notification.
Odisha Government on Thursday said, Internet service shutdown in western city Sambalpur for 48 hours starting today in view of tension following clash during a bike rally on the eve of Hanuman Jayanti.
Whatsapp, Facebook,Twitter, Instagram and other social media services of all mobile service provider has been shut down. Mobile internet data services of all mobile service providers, internet dara services of all internet service providers , Broadband dial up system and any other such means or mode of transmission also shut down, DK Singh, Additional Secretary (Home) said.
Additional Secretary (Home) DK Singh, promulgated the notification under the provisions of section 5(2) of Indian Telegraph Act of 1885 read with rule 2(1) of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency/Public Safety) Rules-2017 to prohibit the use and access of internet and data services for next 48 hours beginning from April 13 , 10 am in Sambalpur district.
