BHUBANESWAR:Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan addressed a press conference in New Delhi today after introducing the ‘Developed India Education Establishment Bill – 2025’ in the Lok Sabha yesterday.
He said on the bill, “While many reforms are being brought in the education sector in the country, the ‘Developed India Education Authority Bill – 2025’ will empower and empower higher educational institutions. The objective of the bill is to empower higher educational institutions in India to achieve excellence through effective coordination and setting of standards. The bill has been prepared in the context of the National Education Policy – 2020. The main objective of the bill is to empower universities and other higher educational institutions to achieve excellence in teaching, learning, research and innovation and to promote excellence through a strong and transparent accreditation and autonomy system. The ‘Developed India Education Authority’ will be established to set standards, maintain coordination in regulations and promote excellence, autonomy and transparent accreditation in higher educational institutions.” He said that the bill will seek to “provide facilities to universities and other higher educational institutions to become independent self-governing institutions”.
On December 12, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the Developed India Education Authority Bill, 2025 for presentation in Parliament. The Bill provides for the establishment of the Developed India Education Authority as an apex body with three councils namely – the Developed India Education Regulatory Council, the Developed India Education Quality Council and the Developed India Education Standards Council. The Bill will promote mutual recognition, multi-disciplinary, interdisciplinary, co-efficient and entrepreneurship.
All higher education institutions under the Ministry of Education, UGC, AICTE and NCTE will be under the umbrella of the Developed India Education Authority for setting standards. The Council of Architecture (CoA), envisaged in the National Education Policy, 2020, will function as a Professional Standard Setting Body (PSSB). The Bill ensures that the current level of autonomy given to institutions of national importance is maintained.
