BHUBANESWAR: On Wednesday , a short while ago, Sri Sujeet Kumar Padhy, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), Patnagarh RW Sub-division, Dist- Bolangir has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance *while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand) as final instalment of the overall demand of Rs 1 Lakh from a Contractor (Complainant) for facilitating release of his final bill towards a government construction project executed by him .
Sri Padhy, AEE had demanded Rs 1 Lakh bribe and was not clearing the bills despite completion of the project. Finding no other alternative, the complt. paid Rs 50,000 in two instalments few days back and requested for clearance of bills. However, Sri Padhy demanded the rest amount of bribe of Rs.50,000/-.
The complt reported about the demand and harassment to Vigilance Authority, following which Sri Padhy, AEE, was nabbed today while accepting the last instalment of bribe of Rs. 50,000/- from the complt. The bribe money has been recovered from the accused Sri Padhy, AEE and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations of Sri Padhy, AEE from DA angle.
In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance PS Case No. 17 dt.23.07.2024 U/s 7 P. C. (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress against accused Sri Padhy, AEE. Detailed report follows.
