SAMBALPUR:The university needs to think about increasing the happiness, prosperity and fulfillment of the people of Odisha. Not only this, there is also a need to give significant importance to teaching in the mother tongue, said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan while attending the 35th convocation ceremony of Sambalpur University on Saturday.
The education policy that T.B. Macaulay formulated in India was only a process of degrading India. He introduced an education policy through him to keep India independent for a long time. As an alternative to this education policy, a new national education policy has come under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the purpose of which is to replace Macaulay’s dependent mentality and develop India’s independent mentality. The National Education Policy prepared under the guidance of the Prime Minister is an important visionary document to enrich India’s knowledge culture in the future. The holistic and multilingual education that great figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Maharshi Aurobindo, Madan Mohan Malviya and Sarvepalli Radhakrishna envisioned is being given a real shape in the National Education Policy today.
The National Education Policy has given more importance to mother tongue. Priority is being given to teaching children in regional and mother tongue. Only by studying in mother tongue will the critical thinking of the child be developed. Only by encouraging education in mother tongue can the vision of ‘Developed Sambalpur’, ‘Developed Odisha’ and ‘Developed India’ be realized. The Principal asserted that Sambalpur University will be in the forefront towards achieving this goal.
The event was attended by State Minister for Higher Education, Sports and Youth Affairs and Odia Language, Literature and Culture Suryavanshi Suraj, State Minister of State for Industries, Skill Development and Technical Education Sampada Chandra Swain, State Minister for Panchayati Raj, Rural Development and Drinking Water Ravi Narayan Naik, Sambalpur MLA Jai Narayan Mishra, and Sambalpur University Vice Chancellor Tinta Bhushan Mishra.
