NEW DELHI: We do not want to erase anyone’s history or neglect any aspect of history, but rather present an accurate picture of history, said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan while attending the convocation ceremony of the first batch of Sir Yadunath Sarkar Fellowship for Indian History in New Delhi today.

Congratulating the first batch of the fellowship organized by the Foundation for Indian Historical and Cultural Research (FIHCR), Shri Pradhan wished everyone success. He said that today the students are not only receiving their certificates but are also taking on the responsibility of being torchbearers of India’s historical, cultural and intellectual sovereignty. He further said that history paves the way for building a bright future. This step towards reviving our cultural, historical and intellectual heritage is commendable. For a long time, we have been studying history from colonialist and biased narratives. Such steps are very important to tell India’s historical, cultural and civilizational heritage in a comprehensive, factual and evidence-based way. The National Education Policy is trying to prevent the erosion of our civilization through education that is at the core of Indianness.

Our current generation should strive to bring our cultural, historical and intellectual heritage to life. The graduating and future fellowship recipients will be committed to presenting the true ‘identity’ of India. Shri Pradhan advised that efforts should be made to give due recognition to the history and heritage of the eastern part of our country. Shri Pradhan hoped that the fellows of the Sir Yadunath Sarkar Fellowship for Indian History would contribute to shaping the national discourse on our civilisational heritage, celebrating our diversity and preserving and promoting our heritage.
