BHUBANESWAR: The Co-ordinated and well planned anti-Maoists’ operations carried out by Odisha Police under able leadership of DGP Abhay and IGP (Operations) Amitabh Thakur has been highly appreciated by the Union Home Ministry. Union Home Secretary Bhalla has expressed his happiness by writing a letter to Odisha Chief Secretary while appreciating State’s anti-Maoists drive.
In just 2 to 3 weeks, security men manning the leftwing insurgency hit Kandhamal, have eliminated as many 6 outlawed leftwing ultras including few women cadres. Kandhamal became safe haven for Maoists for its geographical situations and bordering Ganjam and Gajpati.
On Thursday, 2 Maoists, including a woman, were killed in a gunfight with police personnel in Kandhamal district. Besides, the security personnel seized an INSAS rifle, a carbine and two country-made weapons from the spot. The gun battle happened just few days after the new SP of Kandhamal, Vinit Agarwal took the baton replacing Pratik Singh, who was posted as DCP, Cuttack. On July 5, when, Pratik Singh was SP, the security personnel had also gunned down four Maoists in Kandhamal district.
Besides, DGP Abhay, Director Intelligence, Radha Kishan Sharma, IGP (Operations) Amitabh Thakur, DIG (SOG) Aniruddh Singh, DIG (SWR)Shefeen Ahmed, DIG(Southern) Satyabrata Bhoi and DIG(Intelligence) Anup Sahoo are playing key role in anti-Maoists operations along with SPs of Koraput Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo, Dr. Saravana Vivek M of Rayagada, Vinit Agrawal of Kandhamal and Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari of Malkangiri.
