BHUBANESWAR:Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday attended the ‘AI Impact Summit’ organized by Google and emphasized on promoting India’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities, creating an ‘AI-Ready Generation’ in the country and empowering the next generation of students through AI.
He appreciated Google’s collaboration with 4 AI Centres of Excellence in the country and its investment of US$ 8 million for this. In addition, he also acknowledged the contribution of US$ 2 million by Google for setting up ‘Indic Language Technologies Research Hub’ at IIT Bombay. Shri Pradhan said that such strategic industry partnerships along with the ‘India AI Mission’ will play a key role in making India a global AI powerhouse. He urged global partners like Google to go beyond just providing funds and establish long-term institutional partnerships with AI Centres of Excellence. This will enable India to become a global hub for AI value creation and achieve the goal of ‘Developed India’.
Later, Shri Pradhan held a fruitful meeting with Ms. Preeti Lobana, Country Manager and Vice President, Google India and the Google leadership team. The discussions covered important topics like bridging the digital divide, democratizing technology, using technology to facilitate quality education in remote areas of the country and integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) with ‘Indian languages’ and ‘Indianness’. Shri Pradhan’s initiatives are expected to prove to be a milestone in India’s future journey in technology and education.
