Ultra Modern Steel Cluster to come up in Rourkela, says Dharmendra

ROURKELA/BHUBANESWAR: Union Steel-PNG Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday reviewed the progress of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a subsidiary of Central PSU, Steel Authority India Ltd (SAIL) and assured that that Plant would be further expanded with a Steel Cluster to also come up in Steel City of Rourkela.

RSP has the caliber of producing producing 300 million tonnes of steel considering its proximity with Odisha’s mineral rich Sundargarh and Keonjhar district, Pradhan said adding he would personally pursue the matter.

RSP has the installed capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). Pradhan reviewed the present infrastructure, current capabilities and future prospects of the plant. He reviewed a presentation on the business, processes and performance of the Rourkela Steel Plant.

Pradhan urged the top management to recalibrate their approach and further leverage new technologies and digitalisation to enhance productivity and profitability.

Officials of RSP will explore the options for localisation of consumption of the primary steel produced at the plant. This will ensure growth of the downstream steel industry in Rourkela, Pradhan added.
