BHUBANESWAR: B Prabhakaran, the Tamil Nadu’s Salem born mining contractor , who runs the Thriveni Earth Movers Pvt Ltd, has a got a work contract of worth Rs 31,428 Crore from India’s power Major NTPC Ltd, to develop and operate Talaipalli coal mine in Chhattisgarh, sources said on Thursday. B Prabhakaran is also working in NTPC’s flagship Pakri Barwadih Coal Mining Project in Jharkhand, where it has implemented “intelligent mine”. Thriveni has awarded Zyfra the contract to implement its Intelligent Mine solution at PBCMP, sources said.
Sources in Odisha Mining Industry said, NTPC Ltd, under the Ministry of Power, had awarded mine development and operation contract of the Chatti-Bariatu mine to BGR in November 2017. In the same month, it had awarded a similar contract for the Talaipalli mine to a consortium of NCC and BGR Mining.
But NTPC had terminated the contracts for development and operation of Chatti-Bariatu coal mine in Jharkhand and Talaipalli coal mine in Chhattisgarh over allegations of corruption against senior officials of the private mining company.
Talaipalli coal mine has a production capacity of 18 million tonne of coal per annum. the Talaipalli coal mine has been serving the 1.6GW Lara Power Project owned by NTPC in Chhattisgarh. The block was reallocated by the coal ministry to NTPC in 2015.
The Tamil origin mining giant, who is playing his cards in India’s all most all mineral bearing States, mostly in Naveen Patnaik ruled Odisha and Hemanta Soren ruled Jharkhand, in eastern India , and Congress ruled Chattisgarh and partly in Shiv Sena ruled Maharashtra, is all set to become India’s 3rd largest exporter of iron ore while closely chasing the Rungta Mines Group and others.
B Prabhakaran, who has multiple operations in India and Abroad, expects to become the third largest Indian iron ore exporter with a forecast export volume of around 5.54 million mt for FY2020-21.
