Teacher Mamita Meher Murder: BJP Bandh Hits Normal Life in Balangir, PIL in HC

BALANGIR/BHUBANESWAR/CUTTACK: The Bharatiya Janata Party observed Bolangir Bandh on Thursday  over the demand of resignation of Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged role in Mamita Meher’s murder case. The Party workers led by MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo and district president Sibaji Mohanty demanded dismissal of Minister Mishra as his role in the entire episode is suspected because of his close association with main accused Sahu. The BJP workers also burnt the effigy of Minister Mishra. Normal life badly affected due to the bandh.

Earlier, BJP activists and Mahila Morcha leaders staged a demonstration before the Bolangir SP Office and burnt an effigy of Minister Mishra under the leadership of Bolangir MP Sangeeta Singh Deo.

Meanwhile, a Public Interest Litigation was filed in Orissa High Court demanding Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) probe into Mamita Meher’s murder case.

The PIL was filed by Bharatiya Bikash Parishad. The social organistaion has also sought Rs 50 lakh compensation for the next kin of the deceased. Both the Centre and the State government have been made parties in the matter. Total nine parties including DGP Abhay and Bolangir SP have been made as respondents in the PIL.

Meanwhile, Odisha State Commission for Women has served a notice to SPs of Balangir and Kalahandi districts asking them to submit probe report on Mamita Meher murder case within 15 days.

 It may be noted here that the half-charred body of Mamita Meher, who was missing since October 8, was exhumed from a stadium construction site of Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district on October 19, 2021. Key accused Govinda Sahu , close aid of Minister Mishra, had been arrested and under judicial remand of Balangir Police.
