KENDRAPARA/NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: Few days after Rudra Behera a class 10 student of LB Nodal High School, son of Bholanath Behera under Parinuapada village under Rajkanika block of Odisha’s costal district of Kendrapara, killed by crocodile attack while during bathing in River Kharasrota, BJD Lok Sabha MP, Anubhav Mohanty has taken the matter very seriously and took up the matter with Union Forest and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar .
MP Mohanty had brought to the notice of the Union Minister about the frequent crocodile attacks in the district of Kendrapada and the loss of human lives along with the sorry plight of injured victims. Most of the victims of such attacks are from the fishing community who depend on water to collect their livelihood. But the water bodies are infested with crocodiles. Though barricades are erected and human entry is forbidden during the mating and nesting season of the crocodiles, but human-mammal conflict is on the rise, said MP Mohanty, urging the Minister to take tangible and immediate action.
“I had a meeting with the hon’ble @moefcc Minister Shri @PrakashJavdekar Ji and submitted a MAP report. Requested him to release the fund meant for the conservation & management of mangroves in our State and also highlighted the frequent crocodile attacks in my Kendrapara,’ the Lok Sabha MP had tweeted.
MP Mohanty had also submitted the Management Action Plan (MAP) for the management and conservation of mangrove areas in the State during the year 2020- 2021 to Union Minister Javadekar and requested to release the required funds for effective implement of the plan. Mohanty in the letter to Javadekar informed that the State Level Sanctioning Committee(SLSC) was held on May 28 in which the MAP of the management and conservation of mangroves areas was approved.
