BHUBANESWAR: The controversial IPS officer of 2002 batch, Satish Kumar Gajbhiye was on Friday appointed as Principal of City based Urban Police and Traffic Training Institute. The 1999 batch IPS officer Ghanashyam Upadhay is new IGP (Vigilance) while senior OPS MK Mohanta posted as new SP Deogarh.
While 3 other IPS officers of 2002 batch including Narasingh Bhol, Amitendra Nath Singh aand S Praveen Kumar got IGP rank but the State Government kept Satish Kumar Gajbhiye in SP rank.
Satish Gajbhiye has been continuing as SP Computer since 2017 following his suspension was withdrawn while his batch mates including S Praveen Kumar now IGP(Law and Order), Narasingha Bhol now IGP(North-Central) with additional charge as Principal, PTC, Angul and Amitendra Nath Sinha is now IGP(CID-CB).
Gajbhiye was suspended in 2015 after he landed in the dock over alleged brutal assault of people demonstrating in Kendarapra demanding action against controversial self-styled godman Santosh Raula alias Sarathi Baba on August 7 2015 and for acquisition and alleged encroachment of land in Gop block in Puri district. Gajbhiye , then Kendrapara SP, was also accused of assaulting a lawyer and forcing him to do sit-ups when the people were demonstrating against Sarathi Baba.
