BHUBANESWAR: SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM) organised a Deceased Donor Transplant (DDT) Orientation Program on Friday to create awareness of DDT protocols among key stakeholders of the hospital.
Prof. (Dr.) Umakanta Satapathy, Additional Director, Medical Education and Training and State Nodal Officer of State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), who graced the occasion as chief guest, emphasized organising such programs on DDT while congratulating SUMUM for arranging the interactive session.
“Such programs will certainly create awareness and also fill up the gaps during the implementation of DDT,” he said.The state government, Prof. (Dr.) Satapathy said, was keen on such programs which would benefit patients waiting for organ transplantation. He said that the government would extend all support for such a noble cause.
Brig. (Dr.) Biraj Mohan Mishra, Chief of Medical Services, SUMUM, chaired the meeting which was an initiative by CEO of the hospital, Dr. Swetapadma Dash at the behest of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA).”Deceased Donor Transplant has remained sporadic in India and there is an urgent need to bring clarity regarding DDT protocols to address the attitudes towards organ donation after death and encourage participation in the DDT program. This is a first-of-its-kind initiative and we expect to evolve a structured program for deceased donor transplantation in Odisha”, informed Dr Dash.
Dr. Bibhuti Bhushan Nayak, Joint Director, SOTTO, explained the standard operating procedure followed by the SOTTO team in case of deceased donor transplantation and explained the role of police and forensic specialists in case of medical-legal cases.
Doctors of different departments of SUMUM, SOTTO team members and other officials participated in the interaction program.
