BHUBANESWAR:The oath-taking ceremony of the first year B.Sc. Nursing and GNM students of the 2025-26 batch of the Education and Research (E&R)-run SUM Nursing College (SNC) and the annual function of the college were held here on Friday.
In this program, SOA Vice Chancellor Professor Pradeep Kumar Nanda participated as the chief guest and said that nurses are the symbol of sacrifice and service. Human lives depend on them. Therefore, they must take care of the patients with care. This is a great promise, to fulfill which, he said, it is important to have compassion, kindness and a spirit of service within ourselves.
In this program, Mrs. Madhapurna Mohanty, a lawyer, volunteer and founder president of Maghar Foundation Trust, attended as the guest of honor and congratulated all the new students. Along with classroom lessons, clinical education also has a lot of importance. Therefore, she emphasized on patient care with care.
He said that it is important to serve with dedication to one’s work, with truth, sincerity, positive thinking, selfless attitude, piety, discipline and service attitude.
Film director and writer Ms. Vyatpragya Tripathi attended the event as the guest of honor and in her speech, she told the students that the role of nurses in every hospital is important. She said that the students should learn love, compassion, humanity and care along with education.
It would not be an exaggeration to call nurses the backbone of the healthcare sector. The role of doctors and nurses in the healthcare sector is very important. Right from the time of admission in the hospital till the time of complete recovery and return home, nurses are closely associated with the patient. Therefore, nurses help in bringing a smile on the patient’s face, said Mrs. Tripathi.
Professor (Dr.) Asha P. Shetty, Chairperson, AIIMS Nursing College, Bhubaneswar, joined the program as the chief guest and said that during the Covid period, nurses continued to serve like warriors without any fear. This is a great recognition. She congratulated and congratulated the students for being selected for this recognition.
Professor Parvathi Tripathi, Director, Sam Nursing College, delivered the welcome address, while Professor Sasmita Das, Dean, SNC-1, presented the annual report. Professor Tapati Saha, Additional Dean, SNC-1, delivered the keynote address, while Associate Professor Debjani Nayak administered the Florence Nightingale Pledge to the students.
The event saw the swearing-in ceremony of 200 first-year B.Sc. Nursing and GNM students of the 2025-26 batch and the release of a booklet.
On this occasion, prizes were distributed to the participants of various competitions. Associate Professor Ruby Pradhan, Department of Child Health Nursing, SNC, proposed the vote of thanks.
